We all sang “School’s out for summer, School’s out forever,” knowing that soon the kids would be “bored to pieces,” and we were counting down the days until the school bell rang again in the fall. Well, school’s back, and with it comes a new routine. How can you prioritize fitness in a day that seems to have far fewer than 24 hours in it?

Today, we’re sharing 10 ways you can fit a sneaky workout into your day— even when you’re busy with carpool, after-school activities, work, and nighttime routines.

“Wait Time” Workout

If you wait for an uninterrupted 40 minutes to work out, you’ll be waiting until the kids graduate. Instead, use your wait time as weight (loss) time. Do some squats or pushups while you wait for your coffee. Pack some small dumbbells in the car and do bicep curls in the carpool line. Every little bit helps.

Make Fitness a Family Activity

Set aside a night or two for family fitness night, and take a hike, walk, or bike ride together. Bad weather? Turn fitness night into an indoor dance party instead. Family bonding + making fitness fun? It’s a win/win!

After-School Activity²

Use your kids’ after-school activity time wisely. After dropping them off, take a jog around the neighborhood or find a park to roll out your mat and practice a quick Pilates session.

Homework(out)

Make your kids’ homework work for you! Get in a few calf raises while answering questions and double-checking their work.

Ditch the Car

Are there any errands you run by car that could be completed on a bike ride or a walk instead? Your body (and the environment) will thank you for fewer car rides!

Lunch with a Side of Fit

Work can get hectic, but everyone’s gotta eat! Bring your lunch and walk to a park to eat. You get movement, sunshine, and an actual break from work.

Join a Gym Near Home

The best gym is one you’ll actually attend. Forget fancy. Choose proximity instead. We hope Enhancewell is just down the street, because we’d love to see you in class!

Not local? No problem! You can sign up for a virtual private session to practice whenever, and wherever, works best for you! Book just like a normal private session, and we’ll schedule with you privately over Zoom!

Make Screen Time Work(out) For You!

If your kids are allowed screen time, take advantage of the TV babysitter and get your workout on in another room.

Join the 5 am Club

This one requires going to sleep a little earlier, but can help you get your workout (and all-important me-time) in before the little ones need to wake up for school.

Fitness Transition

Sure, you’ve got 10,000 things to do the moment you walk in the door. But they can wait. Instead, set a routine to change into workout clothes immediately upon returning home and squeeze in a 15-30 minute workout before starting dinner or helping with homework.

So there you have it! Ten ways to fit a workout into your busy days– because some movement is better than no movement at all. Don’t wait for major amounts of time; just start moving NOW, however and wherever you can!
